Missed and delayed diagnosis
When a condition is caught too late, or missed entirely, the harm is often avoidable. These articles explain when a missed or delayed diagnosis may be negligence.
An overview
Not every missed diagnosis is negligence. It may be when a reasonable doctor would have ordered a test, made a referral or acted on symptoms sooner, and the delay changed what happened to you.
At the milder endA urinary infection that was missed, so treatment took longer and recovery was harder than it needed to be.
At the more serious endSepsis that wasn’t recognised in time and led to an amputation, or back pain red flags that were missed and left permanent nerve damage.
Every situation is different. What matters is what happened, how it has affected you, and whether the care fell below what was reasonable. Even where an injury is less severe, you may still be able to recover costs such as treatment and lost income.
