Returning to Teach Health Law at the University of Newcastle, Semester 2 2026

Founder and firm updates

Dr Rosemary Listing returns to the University of Newcastle as a Sessional Lecturer in Health Law for Semester 2, 2026, teaching the seminar program in the postgraduate health law course.

In Semester 2 of 2026, Dr Rosemary Listing returns to the University of Newcastle to teach in LAWS6090 Health Law, the postgraduate health law course at the School of Law and Justice. Having first taught the course in 2024, she takes the seminar program again this semester, working alongside the course coordinator, Professor Angela Daly.

A continuing academic role of this kind reflects an ongoing relationship with the Law School, and a commitment that sits alongside her practice. Teaching the law she works in every day keeps her sharp on it, and it gives law students the benefit of experience drawn from real cases.

What she teaches

Dr Listing leads the weekly seminars, where the material from the lectures and readings is worked through in depth and applied to real problems. The course spans the full landscape of health law, and her seminars move from the areas closest to her practice through to the broader public and global dimensions of the field:

  • Principles of health law and medical ethics
  • Medical negligence and patient safety
  • Consent, autonomy, and the right to refuse treatment
  • Public health law and pandemics
  • The World Health Organization and international health regulation
  • Human rights and health

Why it matters

An academic role of this kind reflects a depth of expertise that is recognised beyond the courtroom, and a genuine commitment to teaching and to the students who will carry health law forward. For clients, it means their matters are handled by someone who does not only practise health law, but teaches it, year after year.
